The most significant date on the legislative calendar recently was 6th April 2006 when the Pensions Simplification legislation came into effect. The changes were wide ranging and offer various opportunities for efficient tax planning for companies and individuals.

Of additional importance is the necessity for clients to ensure that the changes to legislation on 6th April 2006 have not left clients disadvantaged or removed rights that they may have enjoyed under the previous pension regimes. A careful examination of past pension provision is needed for every client to establish whether any protective measures need to be taken in relation to previous entitlements which may have been changed in the rules applying after 6th April 2006.
